To fix exe files running in Vista follow this steps:
1. Go to this site:
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html
2. Click on the exe in the box.
3. Download the exefix_Vista.zip file to your desktop.
4. Follow the rest of the Usage instructions at the site.

To Fix exe in XP

Two options. One is to run a system restore to a date right before the
crash. Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore.

The second is to run the .exe file association fix on Doug Knox’s site:
http://www.dougknox.com/. Go to Win XP Fixes section, then File
Association Fixes, Exe File Association Fix.

Could, I know what do you mean by Uniregister because I deleted the registry entries listed here in this site and now I am not able to launch most of the application like IE, Firefox, regedit, Task Manager as it gives an error message that associations have to be made in Control Settings.
